Excavating Level 2 NVQ Qualification Structure

The Qualification structure below specifies the combination of units that need to be achieved for the individual to be awarded the qualification.

Qualification Title: L2 NVQ Diploma in Plant Operations (Construction) -Excavating

Minimum Credit Value: 55

Total Qualification Time (TQT) for this qualification: 550
An estimate of the total time it could reasonably be expected for a learner to achieve a qualification. TQT includes guided learning hours (GLH) plus an estimate of the time a learner is likely to spend in preparation, study or other learning activities as directed by but not under the immediate guidance of a lecturer, supervisor, or tutor.

Minimum Guided Learning Hours (GLH) for this qualification: 184
The time a learner spends in activities under the immediate guidance or supervision of a lecturer, supervisor, or tutor. This includes assessment if under supervision.

To achieve this qualification a minimum of 55 credits need to be attained. This comprises the 2 mandatory units plus 1 unit from the optional unit group.

The learner will learn key practical skills and knowledge in these mandatory units:
-Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace

-Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace.

The learner will also learn key practical skills and knowledge in one of the following optional units:
-Preparing and operating 180 degree excavators to extract and excavate ground and loose materials in the workplace

-Preparing and operating crawler tractor dozers to carry out dozer operations in the workplace

-Preparing and operating draglines to excavate ground materials in the workplace

-Preparing and operating 360 degree excavators to excavate ground in the workplace

-Preparing and operating trenchers to excavate ground in the workplace

-Preparing and operating tracked loading shovels to excavate ground and loose materials in the workplace.
